About EU and Saudi Arabia?

Can anyone pls tell me why EU(organization) prefers to transfer energy(oil) from Central Asia (which is far) but not from Saudi Arabia??? PLease give me exact points (maybe geographical position, finance, rates, etc?). Thanks.
