Another Tongue piercing question....is it normal...?

Ihave been rinsing with mouthwash constantly, the tattoo parlor i got it done at told me to use crest alcohol free mouthwash...i have noticed in the last day that my gums are REALLY sore, and i have gotten 2 really small canker sores in the front gum area (between the teeth and the lips) is this normal? should i discontinue using the mouthwash? or could it be an allergic reaction to the jewelery or something???
